Our Approach

Bangladesh’s gas distribution system, established in the 1960s, has outdated infrastructure and inadequate maintenance, resulting in significant methane losses. Bridge Carbon is addressing this critical issue by applying advanced technologies and practices to mitigate methane emissions and improve the efficiency of the gas network.

Our methane leak avoidance projects are certified under the CCP label for the AM0023 methodology by the IC-VCM, reinforcing the additionality and robustness of our efforts.

This program has been assessed by the external agency BeZero Carbon with an A rating (August 2024). This rating reflects BeZero’s assessment of the program’s low risk of additionality, effective project monitoring methods, no risk of technical reversion and high level of data availability, transparency, quality, and reliability, which reinforces our commitment to effective and sustainable methane leakage reduction in Bangladesh.

0 Million Tonnes

Bridge Carbon has made substantial progress by repairing over 40,000 methane leaks, effectively preventing approximately 39 million tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. Methane is over 80 times more potent than CO2 in terms of its immediate climate impact, making our work crucial for addressing climate change and increasing the security of the gas network.

Our Methane Detection

Each detected leak is meticulously documented using a GPS-based monitoring system and physically tagged with durable plastic tags. Leaks are also photographed and marked for thorough follow-up. Annual verification is conducted using the same detection techniques as the initial survey to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of our maintenance efforts. Our approach includes:

Advanced Leak Detection

Utilizing state-of-the-art technologies such as HiFlow™ Samplers and the GMI Gas Surveyor (500 Series) to accurately identify and measure leaks.

Training & Empowerment

Equipping local staff with the skills and tools needed to manage and repair leaks efficiently, ensuring sustainable maintenance practices.

Effective Repairs

Employing cutting-edge materials to secure the gas distribution network and ensure long-term durability. Our repairs use advanced sealing materials designed to withstand environmental factors, providing a lifespan of over 10 years.

Climate Impact

By repairing leaks, we preventlarge quantities of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, from entering the atmosphere, thus contributing to climate action.Â

Resource Efficiency

Reducing methane leaks minimizes resource waste and enhances the efficiency of the gas distribution network.
