Improved Cookstoves in Thailand

Project

Improved Cookstoves in Thailand

This Improved Cookstove (ICS) project spans across provinces throughout the six regions in Thailand.

Improved cookstoves fitted with dMRV devices to push beyond methodological requirements and industry standards
125,000 Households

Project Overview

Key Activities

The burning of non-renewable wood has been utilized for fuel in these regions for decades, contributing to substantial deforestation and fossil fuel emissions. Implementing improved cookstoves allows for higher efficiency burning, requires significantly less material, and leads to significantly fewer emissions. Traditional, open flame style cooking also poses a significant health and safety threat to rural communities using these stoves for everyday cooking. Improved cookstoves remove these dangers and improve indoor air pollution in homes.

Project Summary

More efficient Kuniokoa stoves and locally produced PTWS cookstoves have been distributed and installed in 125,000 households, many receiving one of each to better fit the household’s cooking needs and ensure efficient cookstoves are more easily adopted into everyday cooking. Since its start in 2021, this project has reduced emissions by 187,394 tCO2e and is projected to reduce emissions by more than 750,000 tCO2e throughout its lifetime.

Our Stove Champion program facilitates yearly visits to every household. Stove Champions aim to build relationships and create trust with clients, provide further training on stove use and maintenance, and strengthen the partnership between Bridge Carbon and rural communities. This program ensures that every family sees the full benefit of their stoves.
